Description

An instant New York Times bestseller! Charlamagne Tha God—the self-proclaimed “Prince of Pissing People Off,” cohost of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, and “the most important voice in hip-hop”—shares his eight principles for unlocking your God-given privilege.

In Black Privilege, Charlamagne presents his often controversial and always brutally honest insights on how living an authentic life is the quickest path to success. This journey to truth begins in the small town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and leads to New York and headline-grabbing interviews and insights from celebrities like Kanye West, Kevin Hart, Malcolm Gladwell, Lena Dunham, Jay Z, and Hillary Clinton.

Black Privilege lays out all the great wisdom Charlamagne’s been given from many mentors, and tells the uncensored story of how he turned around his troubled early life by owning his (many) mistakes and refusing to give up on his dreams, even after his controversial opinions got him fired from several on-air jobs. These life-learned principles include:

-There are no losses in life, only lessons
-Give people the credit they deserve for being stupid—starting with yourself
-It’s not the size of the pond but the hustle in the fish
-When you live your truth, no one can use it against you
-We all have privilege, we just need to access it

By combining his own story with bold advice and his signature commitment to honesty no matter the cost, Charlamagne hopes Black Privilege will empower you to live your own truth.

There are some great life lessons presented in this book. Charlamagne discusses his trials and tribulations in a small town to the big city. The repeated foul language was turn off for me. I understand the principles and it is real talk for plain understanding. I started out reading the book but switched to audiobook make the story come to life. I strongly recommended the audiobook. He does his own narration in Audible. This book is a mixture of autobiography and advice.

I really love the raw language that was used to understand what been black mean. I am impressed how the author get empowered and his life story just tell the truth about been black. Also, I was impressed how the author put his trust in God and never give up to start all over when he fall. The best lesson this book has thought me is to be oneself in every situation. Never try to be someone else you are not or will never be. That was my every day motto and I agree totally with him. In every situation I believe with the author that God has a plan for every one and it is important to be you, always.

I don’t know much about the author but I was watching a YouTube video of him interviewing Pusha T and I saw the book in the background. I downloaded it to learn more about the author and his thoughts and believes. I had very low expectations to say the least. To my surprise this book greatly exceeded my expectations. Every chapter was a thrill to read and I do feel like a got a much better understanding of why you do what you do and say what you say thanks to your brutal honesty in this book. Thanks again for taking the time to write this and best of luck in all of your future endeavors
