Description

J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye (1951) is a twentieth-century classic. Despite being one of the most frequently banned books in America, generations of readers have identified with the narrator, Holden Caulfield, an angry young man who articulates the confusion, cynicism and vulnerability of adolescence with humour and sincerity.

This guide to Salinger’s provocative novel offers:
an accessible introduction to the text and contexts of The Catcher in the Rye a critical history, surveying the many interpretations of the text from publication to the present a selection of new critical essays on the The Catcher in the Rye, by Sally Robinson, Renee R. Curry, Denis Jonnes, Livia Hekanaho and Clive Baldwin, providing a range of perspectives on the novel and extending the coverage of key critical approaches identified in the survey section cross-references between sections of the guide, in order to suggest links between texts, contexts and criticism suggestions for further reading.
Part of the Routledge Guides to Literature series, this volume is essential reading for all those beginning detailed study of The Catcher in the Rye and seeking not only a guide to the novel, but a way through the wealth of contextual and critical material that surrounds Salinger’s text.

Others apologized for ranting, but I will not! This is pathetic! I was hoping to buy this book, since I lost my copy from when I was in middle school. I figured I'd make it my first e-book, since I also figured it would be affordable, being that the hard copy of the book runs like $8 in book stores. Then I was glad I read the reviews for this book, because I found out this IS NOT EVEN THE BOOK! Apple should remove this garbage from its store immediately, because unlike ALL of the other Catcher in the Rye study guides in their store, this one does not say it's a study guide anywhere! It purposefully attempts to look as though it is the only option for those hoping to buy the actual book, only to rob them of their money. I hope there is a class-action lawsuit against Sarah Graham and Apple for this unethical attempt at getting people's money. She should be ashamed of herself. I guess there is more than one pathetic excuse for a human being related to the book. The audacity of this woman, thinking she deserves four times what the author asks for his real book. I'm very disappointed I can't buy the real book, and I hope karma gets this Sarah Graham out of everything, for being a scam-artist.

What e-book could possibly be worth $28? And it's a study guide no less. What are the coats anyway? No paper. No shipping costs. I'm all for paying authors, but this is ridiculous.
